Mushroom Musings: A new perspective

Most of our patterns are formed in childhood (of course). And every energy type has different conditioning related to their childhood. And it makes a hell of a lot of sense.

Let me tell you about a recent experience I had that is deeply connected to my subconscious Projector wound. This wound had stayed kind of hidden to me until I went on a Psilocybin journey. Psilocybin is found in psychedelic mushrooms, and I decided to participate in a ceremony with an experienced facilitator. I’ve taken mushrooms before, but this was the first time I did it in such an inward-focused way, deeply involved in a process of asking myself questions.

I talk a lot about self-worth because I’ve gone through (and am still going through) this important process myself. So my intention for the experience was basically to ask my subconscious: What is holding me back from fully stepping into it?

And I can tell you—if you ask the right questions during such a trip, it reveals the exact answers.

I went back to my childhood and experienced the feeling of being invisible. More precisely: I was making myself invisible. That was a massive breakthrough in understanding some of my behaviors and patterns.

So what does this have to do with Human Design?

It actually took me a few days to realize, but invisibility is a wound related to Projectors, especially when our unique perspective doesn’t have space to be seen. One of the most important things for a Projector is to be seen and recognized. Only when others recognize our gifts and invite us can we truly flourish in what we do.

I grew up in an environment where people didn’t really see me. And I guess that’s the case for many Projectors, simply because most parents didn’t know how to raise one or what we needed as children.

That’s why we go through this process of deconditioning, some of us more than others. We all learned things in childhood that might have served us once but now hold us back.

Just realizing that I’m conditioned to feel invisible already helps. But combining this realization with Human Design is absolutely mind-blowing. It gives me an even deeper understanding of how my energy works and how I’m meant to move through life.

Now, I can constantly reflect on that feeling of being invisible and ask myself:
Is this action coming from a place of lack—or is it aligned with my strategy?
And how can I fill that void? By recognizing myself first.
By honoring my unique perspective, and by practicing that recognition through journaling, reflection, and awareness.

Why am I telling you this?

If you’re a Projector too, it might be helpful to reflect on your own feeling of invisibility and ask yourself:
Do I truly see myself?

Environment is important for every type—but for Projectors, we are especially dependent on it. We need people around us who see and value us. If they don’t, the only thing we can really do is change our environment. Our insights only land when people truly recognize us.

And that brings us back to the topic of self-worth and boundaries.
If you don’t see your own value, others most likely won’t either. It has to start with you nourishing that sense of worth inside, regardless of how others respond.

You can start with my free self-worth meditation, available for download here.
Do it as often as you need to, to remind yourself that you are worthy, simply because of your unique energy. Not because of what you do.

Reflections for the other energy types:

🔋 Generators & Manifesting Generators
For you, it’s often about letting others take advantage of your energy and pushing yourself into things you don’t really want to do. So your most powerful tool is learning to say NO—and trusting that doing so protects your energy.

🔥 Manifestors
For you, it may be growing up in environments that couldn’t handle your power. Places where people tried to manage or shrink you so they could feel more comfortable. Your work is to reclaim your power and trust your big visions without needing approval.

🌙 Reflectors
Even more than Projectors, you are shaped by your environment. It’s everything. Your life reflects the people and places around you. Check in with yourself often. How do your environments make you feel? You absorb it all, you are the mirror. Make sure your surroundings honor your fluidity and don’t pressure you into boxes or fast decisions.

This week, challenge yourself with the question:
Where can I say NO?
Is it an environment, a person, a situation, or a task?
Then act on it. You’ll see how good it feels and others might even appreciate your honesty.
